After years of exploring arts and crafts as a hobby, Dawn enrolled as a mature student on a Foundation Diploma in Art & Design where she was introduced to the world of kiln fired glass. This was an epiphany moment for Dawn, and she went on to complete a BA (hons) in Applied Arts from the University of Derby. She now teaches glass fusing workshops from her studio in Derbyshire, only half an hour away from the beautiful Peak District, as well as community and schools workshops in a variety of media. Dawn has several pieces of sculpture on permanent display locally, as well is showing in exhibitions and selling through galleries. Dawn says:
“I am fascinated and intrigued by scientific imagery. From microscopic worlds to satellite photographs of the natural and the manmade world, I see patterns, textures and shapes that occur and repeat.
My work is often inspired by its location. By investigating its current or former use I gain understanding of a site, and use this to inform my ideas. I try to incorporate my interest in science and technology, both visually and often practically, in work that I make.
My pieces are intended not only to decorate space, but also to intrigue and engage the viewer.”
